about

UKM2 held in the delightful surroundings of riverhouse arts centre in Walton-on-Thames, took place over 3 days in March 2007 and like UKM1, held at the same venue 18 months previously, attracted participants from many parts of the world. The seven concerts and two keynote presentations (James Wyness and Aaron Hunt) were all recorded and some of these recordings have already been broadcast on Microtonal Radio (www.microtonal-radio.com).
Three live recordings appear on the double CD and these are joined by specially made recordings (Gorton, Herriott, Wyness, Visser)and one previously released recording (Desorgher). All pieces were performed at UKM2, with the exception of James Wyness' 'Hannah Throwing Stones'.
The double CD give sa glimpse of different approaches to microtonality in a variety of different styles. It includes some outstanding performers who have made a focus for microtonal performance in their work. Microtonal aficionados will be intrigued by the diversity of music structured in quarter-tones, eight-tones, sixteenth-tones, 19 divisions of the octave and just intonation. But at the end of the day, for anyone interested in new music, this is simply music superbly played.
Donald Bousted, Artistic Director of Microtonal Projects and UKM2, 2008
